Other than tomatoes and a few Jalapeno Peppers I am going to stick with herbs this year. Kevin does the tomatoes so I will stick with culinary herbs and a few old Victorian ones. Oh, and I planted leaf lettuce in big planters around the backyard, Bib lettuce in front of the peppers and Midget Peas behind the peppers. Kevin is training a grape vine and we will build a funky arbor tomorrow to assist in the grape development. I mulch around the herbs and other plants with cedar dog bedding. It keeps the bugs away from the plants and keeps the roots moist and the leaves dry. I hope so anyhow.
If you go to a Dollar store they frequently have Jumex juice in a can. I am not sure it is healthy but it sure is good. Kevin knew I wanted Popsicle makers so he got me two kinds. I buy about 5 or 6 kinds of Jumex and make my own Popsicles out of it. My favorite flavor is strawberry banana. I also make Papaya pineapple, and Guava sicles. I believe they count as a fruit or vegetable serving from the FDA. I am going to try yogurt mixed in and see if I can make something good out of that. I am guessing by the end of the summer I will have made Gazpacho pops or melon pops. The summer is just beginning. Let's all have a great one.
I just got home from New York. I have been there getting my family home ready for sale. It's a lovely home and is going very cheap! I must warn you though. It's haunted by me and all my brother's and sister's.
It is almost empty but full of so many memories.
This is a grove of pine trees that we planted on the "original Earth Day"
You get to keep the window out of my Gramma's house.
Six bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a built in swimming pool.
All the chachka have been removed.
The hearts and souls of all it's occupants will remain.
But I am home now. With me, a collection of memories I will never have the chance to relive again. There is something to be said for spending two weeks in your parents home. While painting, waxing, polishing, stripping, and washing there was plenty of time spent in each room remembering mom and dad and my entire life. My little sister and I "roughed it" with little furniture, and lots of time and task. We would finish each day by sitting in a room and remembering everything we could about each other, the folks, the sibs. There has never been a more emotional few weeks in my life. On one of the last days we were there my sister presented me with a big manilla envelope full of little school papers, drawings, greeting cards, that my mom had hung onto for 45 years. We sat and looked through my life as a child and remembered when life was simpler. As we sent the last load of furniture through auction we vowed to always remain close to each other and all our brothers and sisters. I know these walls can talk and what a story they have to tell. Mom and dad would both be so proud of the job we did. The estate attorney cannot believe how well we get along and that there has not been a single issue to resolve. Well, no arguments betweem us. I have no experience with estates but have used my parents guidance to direct me through the process. I am truly making certain that all their wishes have been carried out. We donated my dad's electric scooter to an old Veteran so he can be mobile and participate in parades all summer long. We have cleaned the house top to bottom so mom won't be ashamed when people come to look at the house. We have treated each other as brothers and sisters and shared the burden without strife and discord. All is well mom and dad. Your kids are all doing okay and helping each other out. Whoever lives in that house is destined for a happy and full life full of meaning, and love, and triumph over adversity. A family lived there and has just moved on to see what the world has to offer. I may never see you again in person but I will always remember every minute I spent at 4315 Buckingham Drive. I am a bi-product of that happy home. I hope a large family moves in and picks up where The Ondeks left off.
I would love to see Charla and Mirna win the Amazing Race. I really just wanted an excuse to post this picture of Eric and his boyfriend, I mean his partner from the last season. They are certainly not Gay. That is for sure. Their bathing suits are gay as hell though and the hand holding thing is pretty gay. The public sightings are even gayer but Eric likes to nail chicks.
Charla and Mirna's grandparents were killed in a Concentration Camp. They really have been nice to everybody so I hope they win. Although Mirna is irritating she truly supports Charla and treats here like she is just like anybody else. They may not win but I sure hope they do.
Dear Friend, Yesterday, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, a bill that promises to extend protection from violent or discriminatory acts of hate to gay and lesbian Americans. In a shocking turn of events, even for this administration, President Bush has threatened to veto this anti-hate bill. With the overwhelming congressional and public support for this legislation, many are asking who the President could possibly be serving with such a commitment; the answer unfortunately is the religious right. Over the last few months the religious right has waged a deceptive campaign opposing this pro-equality legislation. They have employed a range of excuses; Chuck Colson compared the law to something out of George Orwell's famous novel 19841, Tony Perkins has stated that the legislation is “contrary to our heritage and our values,”2 and just this week James Dobson told listeners of Focus on the Family Radio, “there’s a vote coming up on some insidious legislation in the United States Congress that could silence and punish Christians for their moral beliefs. That means that as a Christian – if you read the Bible a certain way with regard to morality – you may be guilty of committing a ‘thought crime.”3 Such sentiments beg the question: does the religious right truly believe that hate speech is an integral component of their faith? This notion is preposterous and simply goes to show just how out of touch the religious right is, not only with real American values, but with mainstream Christian values as well. While most Americans see the religious right’s campaign for what it is -- an attempt to make gay and lesbian Americans second class citizens -- their bigoted views have found audience with at least one man, President Bush. Click here to send Chuck Colson, Tony Perkins, and James Dobson a letter condemning their campaign of hate. These men aren’t simply opposing core American values of equality, they’re perverting faith. Let them know they should be ashamed of themselves. Clark and the rest of the DefCon Team P.S. This filthy little bastard is up to his old games again. Supporting him are the Lovely and Talented Carl Rove and "El Dicko" Dick Cheney. Before you read another line remember that Carl Rove's father was gay and Carl was very close with his father's male partner of many years. There is no way anyone can forget that Cheney's daughter Mary is a Lesbian.
White House Issues Veto Threat Against Gay Hate Bill

(Washington) Just hours before the House votes on the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act the White House issued a statement saying that if the bill passes the House and Senate and goes to the President, his senior advisors would recommend that he veto it.
The American Family Association sent an alert to thousands of its members calling on them to email and phone the White House to call for a veto. (story)
I would not call anything these people do Family Oriented!
"The Hate Crimes Act criminalizes a vast array of state and local acts and threatens religious leaders with criminal prosecution for their thoughts, beliefs, and statements," AFA claims - something supporters of the bill and LGBT civil rights groups dispute.
Concerned Women for America also is calling for a veto.
The legislation has the support of LGBT civil rights groups and has been endorsed by more than 210 law enforcement, civil rights, civic and religious organizations, including: the National Sheriffs' Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, U.S. Conference of Mayors, and the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association.

In a letter to the President the group says "there is no evidence to suggest that homosexuals or cross-dressers do not receive equal protection under the law."
"Justice should be blind," said CWA President Wendy Wright.
"Matthew Shepherd’s assailants received the same sentence as Mary Stachowicz’s, a grandmother who was brutally murdered by a homosexual man. Victims are — and should be — treated equally in the justice system, regardless of their ‘sexual orientation.’ This ‘hate crimes’ bill would overturn this balance, creating second-class victims and a federal justice system that discriminates against grandmothers, children, women and men simply because they are heterosexual."
Stachowicz was murdered on November 13, 2002 by her coworker Nicholas Gutierrez. Gutierrez claimed that Stachowicz continually harassed him on the job about being gay and attempted to convert him to Christianity.
On the day of the murder she allegedly asked him "Why do you have sex with boys instead of girls?" He flew into a rage and beat, stabbed and strangled her.
Since then her murder has been cited by Christian conservatives as an unreported hate crime.
Matthew Shepard, a gay University of Wyoming student, was lured from a bar by two men on the night of October 6, 1998. He was found beaten and strung up on a fence along a remote country road and died in hospital on October 12, 1998.
Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney are currently serving life sentences in prison.
"Perhaps most frightening is the fact that liberal legislators have refused any amendment which would substantively protect religious expression in association with this legislation," said Concerned Women for America spokesperson Matt Barber of adding gays to hate crimes laws.
"Similar laws have been used around the world — and right here at home — to silence opposition to the homosexual lifestyle. That refusal speaks volumes about the true agenda behind this legislation, which is to grant official government recognition to both homosexual and cross-dressing behaviors, and to silence opposition to those behaviors," Barber said in a statement.
So, in short, Religious people believe that it is OK to beat up on faggots and they shouldn't be punished differently even though every major law enforcement agency in the country believes it would work better as a deterrent. Most criminal laws have penalties as deterrents if I am not mistaken. Granny shouldn't have been killed by the hateful fag but she just had to save his soul that one last time. Freedom of Religion is also Freedom from it if you so chose. There are so many stories that never get reported and perhaps it is because the Government of this fine county are going to use the power of Veto to protect violent criminals. I still laugh so hard every time I see Matt Barber, spokesman for Concerned Women of America. Couldn't they just rent a female spokesperson to add just a touch of credibility? I believe slave owners had arguments also when slavery was abolished. I am sure, because I know, that many people stood up when women wanted the right to vote. The difference is that "People of Faith" are able to congregate, organize, preach, and don't have to pay a red cent in taxes. They grub money off of old lonely people and then use it to blast their hate speech via satellite into my home. When I go to vote for a Federal Election I do so just a few feet from the pulpit the Pastor just spent the previous Sunday describing me as an evil deviant from. Folks, I try so hard to support everybody through everything and I still can't help but wonder why after all this time nothing is being done and I don't hear any outrage.
I am going to make it my life's work to find out what the rules are that govern Tax Exempt status and do everything I am able to to strip each and every Church from that status. I am going to make sure that the money I work so hard to earn will never go to fund these hateful assholes. If you go to church and you actually care do you have the courage to approach your Pastor, Priest, Minister and ask them what they feel? What will you do when they answer? I will ask this question for the last time....
If I were Anne Frank would you hide me in your attic?
