Ah, the Lincoln Bedroom. Maybe he should have fought for Gay equality.

Heh. But whether he was gay or not, he was a good President.

Hopefully, one day, sexual orientation won't matter and we can cut the gossip crap! There are a lot of good arguments that St. Paul was gay and he probably was. But does it really matter in the big scheme of things?
I'm sorry, but it's wishful thinking and plain reading into history to believe Lincoln was gay. Ignorance to basic trends of history, such as how it was very common for male roommates to sleep in the same bed in the 1800s out of pure thriftiness, makes it really easy to believe what's simply not true. Not to say that there weren't gay people in those days, but Lincoln wasn't one of them. The other couple of points made in this article about Lincoln were very weak.
Another fact about Lincoln is that he did not have te deep booming voice that he is always portrayed as speaking but rather a very high, squeaky voice.
So you've read the book they mentioned in this article? Or is it just a gut feeling? Why would it be wishful thinking? Would that diminish what he's done? This is a tongue in cheek article and it "roils" historians as it says. But they seldom if ever look for this type of thing and used to go out of their way to bury things and the press was generally in on it. JFK was a philanderer. It's very well known now but it wasn't so well known when it was happening because it was "kept quiet". It was very common for family members to share a bed. But a Presidential bodyguard to save heat? I don't care one way or the other. Read the book and let me know if you have any new insights. It's the only book written specifically about the topic and was done so by somebody who knew what to look for. That still doesn't make him gay. People think I'm straight all the time and I have lived with my partner for 18 years in 5 states and they still think we are just travelling best friends. When I tell them I am they think I'm kidding. People from both sides will believe whatever they wish to.
It really shouldn't matter. People make things happen because they are driven. If he was or wasn't it doesn't affect what he has done for humanity. But if he was it would be a good thing for young gay kids to know because it might help them cope with the hate and judgement they will spend the rest of their lives facing. Like the way a kid might look up to an athlete or something. I look up to Michelangelo and I know he was gay. It was one of the few inspirations I had as a kid and I only knew it because they mentioned it in my church. They didn't bring it up derogatorily either. It was Desmond Tutu speaking at my church when I was 14 and I never forgot it. It carried me through some tough times and I have spent the rest of my life painting and drawing. I needed something to make me feel that I could do great things also. I haven't,lol, but I could if I wasn't such a slacker.

Good point. But it will be nice when people are no longer so interested in one another's sexual orientations. I guess we still have a long way to go.
I appreciate that what you wrote was tongue in cheek, but I find this topic annoying. No, I've not read the book, and nor do I wish to. This isn't the first person to suggest Lincoln was gay, by far, and for the same reasons. I have read about this sort of thing many times. It's a trend to spend one's time figuring out who throughout history was gay because of one thing or another that they did, and there are those who even feel emboldened in the sexual orientation by discovering that a famous so-and-so was gay. I'm with you. Who cares?

Michelangelo? Hunh. Didn't know. I'n glad you had the experience hearing Desmond Tutu.

*waves* Everything OK there?
