Well lets tackle the German Magazine cover first, I came across an urgent ad for a photographer. An all girl German group that's visiting the city wants to have their photo taken and that particular photograph will be used as the cover of a German Magazine back in their homeland, I emailed them, they replied and I forwarded some of my work so now I'm waiting on the reply..

onto my understanding of people.. the more I shoot the more I come to see how interesting we all are, how easy it is for us to be sad, happy. How quickly we build up walls to keep others out and how quickly they come falling down when the right moment presents itself.. It's fun learning all this while looking through the lens , it really makes me want to do this more and more, there's nothing on earth like it, you're a philosopher , you're an artist, you're a god behind that lens

"Bad Men"--Part II

We drove in Barciniak's old Plymouth, the windows down to feel the cool summer night air, some hair band on the tape player. Gus drove with his right hand on the wheel, a cigarette drooping from his wide lips, and his left hand out the window keeping the beat on the hard-top. The mug was nestled between his thighs, un-sipped from. "So," I said over the music and the wind. "I take it this isn't one of Lino's jobs, then?"

"It is not endorsed by any local crime figure," Gus said through his smoke. It bobbed in his mouth and dropped ash all over his rayon shirt. "I don't know nothing about it. Strictly freelance."

"Strictly Jackie."

"Yeah, I guess so. He calls, tells me to round up a couple guys. There was this sound in his voice, I could tell there was no time for dilly-dallying". He looked at the clock on the dash. It read 3:03. "We gotta get Dave on the way."

"Did you call him, or is he getting rousted as well?"

"I don't really like to announce my movements, ya know? We'll knock him out of bed and get that ugly wife of his to make us some eggs."

"We have time for eggs?"

"I think Jackie would prefer us proteinated and ready for action."

I looked at his mountain-like profile for awhile. "You are confusing. You say 'no dilly-dallying', and then you talk about getting Lula to cook breakfast."

"Lula, that's right, that's her name. You remember that stuff."

"She's not that ugly."

"Pretty ugly," Gus said, turning up the stereo volume a click. "She has that mole on her face."

"A beauty mark."

"No. When you're Cindy Crawford, it's a beauty mark. When you're Lula Swedlow, it's a fucking mole. Plus, she has no ass to speak of. Built like an asthmatic boy. Maybe that's your idea of good fucking, but it's not mine."

"She's the best Dave could hope for."

Gus barked a nicotine-flavored laugh. "That's a fact."

"Why the hell is he coming out? What's Jackie thinking?"

"Beats me. The Deputy's like the mascot of our clubhouse or whatever. I never liked that guy."

"You don't like anybody, Gus."

"But I'm not even open to the prospect of maybe one day liking Deputy Dave. Like, I can't even see the day when that could happen. And I've got a pretty good imagination." He took a left onto a tree-lined residential street. "Man, I'm hungry." He turned the volume down as we started passing darkened family domiciles. "Maybe we'll just hit a Wendy's or something. Isn't there one that stays open late on 19^th?"

I didn't know anything about a Wendy's. I was about to suffer a car drive with two of my least favorite people, and my mood was souring. Why the hell couldn't Jackie have sent out Stacey or Josephine to pick me up? Speaking of which, where the hell was Stacey? Jackie rarely went out on a job without his right-hand man. This whole situation reeked of hink. I ran a hand through my beard, toyed with the cowlick. I stewed and drank coffee until we pulled into the driveway of a trim, red brick bungalow.

There was a motion-sensitive light that clicked on, spilling out from the front porch to reveal a yard kept with military precision: Lula's work, no doubt. Dave couldn't be bothered to keep himself trimmed, let alone his property. As we were getting out of the car, the front door of the house opened, and out gimped Dave, squinting and twitching. He spat on the grass and grinned a wide, golden smile. Deputy Dave had a two-nickel gap in his teeth and was not on the best of terms with his toothbrush.

"Hey, fellas," Deputy Dave called, "I heard ya pull up. I was just watchin' tv!"

Watching tv. At three-thirty in the morning. "Another wild night, huh, Dave?" Gus said with ungentle sarcasm.

"Ha," Dave said with a cocked head as he shambled toward us on his bum leg. "What's up?"

"Favor for Jackie," I said, "and it's urgent, so get your pants on." Dave was wearing boxers and a tee-shirt.

"Well, hell," he said with a grin. "Hell yes, guys! Hell goddamn yes!"

Tortolita Sunset

What a week. This is my first post in over a week...well except the Photo Quest post. Heard from my friend Matushka Elizabeth in Texas. Dolly hit her town with a big bang. A big tree went down near their church but they are all fine. Haven't heard from TicTac yet...hope he is OK.

We are to get what is left of Dolly on Sat and Sun. Hope we get the good Dolly and she brings us some gentle rain.

I haven't taken a sunset photo in weeks. Been took busy as we have had wonderful sunsets this week and I haven't had time to take photos. Tonight I pushed myself out the back door and got these photos...Enjoy, good night my VOX friends and neighbors.

To the person arriving late to the movie

Dear tardy movie-goer,

Just a few tips:

Don't ask me to move down so you and your friends can sit as close to the centre as possible. In fact, don't even ask me to move my bag when there are plenty of seats elsewhere. I arrived early to get my seat. You're late! Sit on the side and deal with it.
Don't ask me to move my drink so you can put your disgusting flavoured coffee there to stink up my whole movie-going experience. No, actually, leave your coffee there, since it occasionally masks the scent of your BO.
Don't talk during the movie. I don't care how hot you think Pierce Brosnan is, you don't have to reiterate it every single time his face shows up on the screen. And when you're doing all of that not-talking, keep your mouth closed when you chew your gum.

A harried mother-of-two, who went to a movie tonight in order to prevent a mental breakdown, and had those two hours, those two hours alone, to regroup and recharge before going back home and attempting to be a good, patient mother until next year, when she just may get to go to another movie.
